Beyond the Pale

A contest for one-shot stories inspired by images that imply secret desires, habits, and happenings. Fetish and deviance. The forbidden. The socially UNacceptable. What goes on behind closed doors only. What pushes beyond the pale. The otherwise untouchable. The taboo.

There is a place and time for everything and this is the here and now for you to push the conventional envelope. The trick though; the key here is to push and not set fire to said envelope. This is a contest calling for the exploration of adult content that may be considered controversial, and it should be treated in an adult manner - articulately and artistically. The point is to tow the line, to haunt; not to flagrantly attempt to shock and disgust. You can write about exploitation without being exploitative.

This is a contest open to any and all pairings, AH and AU. It is an invitation, a call to let your imagination run wild into the dark.

Myself, and the other hostesses, have experience with controversial content. We, ourselves as well as all of you, know the difference between a disturbing image backed by a gripping plotline, and abuse that is just plain excessive and egregious. The latter WILL be found unacceptable and will NOT be added to the C2. Push limits, but do so with common sense and eloquence.

Include in your A/N the number of the image chosen, as well as any warnings you feel are appropriate.

A minimum standard of grammar is expected. You are strongly advised to use a beta.

Collaborations are acceptable.

Must be a one-shot and must be a new story and not an outtake from a pre-existing story.

The one-shot cannot be continued until the contest is complete.

No entry limit. You may write as many as you'd like.

A maximum of 20,000 words not including header, disclaimer, AN etc.

There are no specifics on POV and all categories (AUH, AH, Canon, OOC) will be accepted.

All submissions will be screened to ascertain that these requirements have been met before being added to the C2. Hostesses reserve the right to reject, or return for further editing, any stories which they feel are not respectful of the seriousness and gravity of their content.

All entries will be read and voted on by a panel of judges and the selections will be narrowed down to 20 which will go forward to the Open Vote.

I've been looking for months for something good, but haven't been able to find any and when I do find good ones, they get taken off of the sites. The reason the Cullens actually left in New Moon was due to a threat in the Vampire World, which causes vampires to become human, but in the state they were just before they were turned (e.g. Edward is a human about to die from the Spanish Influenza, but Carlisle is an otherwise healthy human).

It is up to you whether or not Bella was informed of this threat.

The only survivors of this threat (out of the Cullen Coven) are Carlisle, Jasper and Alice.

It is up to you how widespread this vampires-becoming-human threat is (who else survived / died / was affected)

It is up to you as to the nature of the threat (a vampire-affecting disease, a particular vampire's gift etc).

Alice's mental state is questionable (can her human brain handle her gift?).

It is up to you how to handle Jasper's gift in his human state.

A one-shot or poem contest for Twilight

When the clock strikes midnight is someone there with you in the Moonlit-night? Or do you mourn the loss of a loved one? Is it by the grace of light that you find yourself falling in love? Or did love's eternal rose fall out of your hand and onto the ground of ashen leaves? Does one kiss equal eternity? Or does eternity equal a lifeless nothingness?

A challenge for all, whether you are into tragedy or romance, adult or youth, one-shots or poetry. A total of ten award possibilities.

Rules:

1. Must be Twilight related.
2. One-shots have a maximum word limit of 5000 words, and poems (also technically a one-shot) have a maximum word limit of 1500 words. (There is no minimum for either, thought it must be complete.) -(Maximums are guidelines only, we will accept longer, but we encourage them to stay under)-
   
3. Authors can enter up to three one-shots or poems.

RULES & GUIDELINES

All scenes must be written with a PG-13 rating.

All main characters must be canon. Non-canon pairings are permitted with secondary characters (ie Angela/Ben vs Angela/Eric or props: silver Volvo sedan vs black Volvo SUV)

Scenes must be written in script format - see link for example

Entries will include two (2) scenes. Participants can choose any scene from Breaking Dawn to write, the Challenge moderators will assign the second scene. All potential participants must fill out form to receive your prompted moderator assigned scene (see SUBMIT AN ENTRY section for form link).

Each scene can be submitted separately, but must be labeled in the header. See below for header requirements.

Participants may also submit a third entry for a R, M, MA, or NC-17 rated scene for a separate Outtake portion of the Challenge. These entries must be labeled as an outtake in the scene title. We discourage any authors under the age of 18 from submitting entries rated R/M/MA/NC-17.

Collaborations are accepted. A maximum of six (6) scenes allowed per participant.

Word count per scene should not exceed 4,000 words - including scene descriptions and directions to the characters. (This may be difficult, but hey... that's what makes this a "challenge"!) Header info and author's notes are excluded in the total word count.

EDWARD and BELLA are sitting hand in hand on the couch, waiting. Bella is fidgeting anxiously. She moves to pull her hand away, but Edward keeps it firmly in place, front and center.

SOUND OF CRUISER pulling in gravel driveway.

EDWARD

Stop fidgeting, Bella. You’re not

confessing murder, here.

BELLA

Easy for you to say.

Bella silently listens for the sound of Charlie’s boots as he approaches the house. Edward whispers to Bella.

EDWARD

Calm down, Bella.

The front door slams unnecessarily hard against the wall and Charlie, dressed in full uniform, enters.

EDWARD

Hello, Charlie.

Bella nervously protests.

BELLA

No! Wait until he hangs up his gun.

Edward gives Bella a crooked smile and chuckles at her unease. Charlie rounds the corner into the living room, eyes falling on Bella and Edward.

CHARLIE

Bella. Edward. What’s going on?

EDWARD

We’d like to talk to you. Bella and I have some good news.

Charlie looked at Edward suspiciously.

CHARLIE

Good news?

Bella motions to Charlie’s recliner.

BELLA

Have a seat, Dad.

Charlie stiffly walks to the recliner and sits on edge.

BELLA

Don’t get worked up, Dad. Everything’s fine.

CHARLIE

Sure, Bells. That’s why you look like you’re about to pass out.

Bella makes a face and glances at Edward.

CHARLIE

BELLA

Charlie, I realize I’m a bit out of order in doing this. Traditionally, I would have asked you first, and I mean no disrespect. So, I’m asking your blessing. Bella and I would like to get married.

Charlie’s gaze is set on Bella’s ring. She and Edward sit tensely on the couch as Charlie processes the announcement.

CHARLIE

Well, guess I’m not all that surprised. Least you’re not pregnant. You’re sure you’re not, right?

Bella hides her face in embarrassment

Yes, Dad!

CHARLIE

I want to find the best point of view of a girl/guy who has an imprint with one of the wolves in Sam's/or Jacobs wolf pack. Bella and Edward are in love. Then they find out Bella is sick (you can pick her sickness as long as it’s a life threaten sickness). Bella doesn’t want help and tries to push everyone away. Edward writes her a song (Your Guardian Angel by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus) and sings it to her. How does she react to the song? Does she survive her sickness with help or does she die? 

I love when people take a song and make them into stories.  I don’t know why, but all well. It is your job to come up with the best story for the song Your Guardian Angel by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. It’s a really nice song that I think would make a good story.   I don’t have a dead line or anything like that, but Bella’s sickness and it has to be an all human story. As long as it’s a life threaten one as I said before, I'm good. So when you have the time write the story please and good luck!!!
